KGM boosts learning & development programme with CII

1 May 2009: KGM Motor Insurance, a specialist provider of motor insurance products to niche markets, has boosted its learning and development activity by inviting the Chartered Insurance Institute into KGM House for a staff development day.

Over 10% of staff participated in one-to-ones and group sessions to find out how they can develop their professional skills by working towards CII qualifications.

HR Manager, Nina Fenwick, comments: "We are committed to encouraging our staff to achieve professional insurance qualifications to help them progress their careers and achieve their personal goals. We have a number of people studying for their CII qualifications already and wanted to give everyone the opportunity to find out first hand from the CII the benefits of achieving these qualifications and what it could mean for them personally. We ran a similar session last year to give our staff more information about National Vocational Qualifications, which was extremely successful."

At a time when many businesses are cutting back on training budgets, KGM is bucking the trend and increasing its commitment to its learning and development activity.

Colin Hart, KGM's Active Underwriter, comments: "We've got ambitious plans to grow our business to write premiums in excess of £100 million by 2011. To manage that growth, we're going to need to both attract new high calibre individuals and retain and develop our existing staff - and to do that, we want to ensure we give every one of them the opportunity to achieve their career aspirations. Initiatives such as our engagement with the CII form a key part of our commitment to training as a business."

CII Business Development Manager Lisa Williams said: "We had a fantastic response from the KGM staff and we are looking forward to helping them achieve further professional and personal development. It is very encouraging to be working with an organisation with such a commitment to ongoing professional development."
